چکیده
A new crustal 1D layered model for Albania has been determined. The data used consist of P and S readings from 108 evenly distributed well located earthquakes using the Albanian Seismic Network nearby seismic stations. method was to relocate many thousand models, which were varied in a systematic way wide range around start determined currently available models. with lowest average travel time residual RMS then selected as final model. Tests synthetic showed this be robust method. With dataset, reduced 0.69s, current model, 0.56s 0.49s hypocenters also found closer set ISC than original locations. is: Depth interface (km) P-velocity (km/s) 0 5.5 12 6.0 23 6.3 41 7.7 Vp/Vs=1.81. This is different should therefore represent significant improvement earthquake location.

Knowing the best 1Dmodel of the crustal and uppermantle structure is useful not only for routine hypocenter determination, but also for linearized joint inversions of hypocenters and 3D crustal structure, where a good choiceof the initialmodel canbevery important. Here,we tested thecombinationof a simpleGA inversionwith the widely used HYPO71 program to find the best three-layer model (upper cru...
متن کاملThe Crustal Structure
This thesis consists of three papers examining problems related to the crustal structure, isostasy and subsidence history of aseismic ridges and mid-plate island chains. Analysis of gravity and bathymetry data across the Ninetyeast and eastern Walvis Ridges indicates these features are locally compensated by an overthickening of the oceanic crust. Maximum crustal thicknesses are 15-30 km. The w...

The boundary between the crust and the mantle was discovered by Mohorovicic in 1909 under the European continent. Subsquent research in this century established the major differences between the continental and oceanic crust; a typical thickness for the continental crust is 30-50 km while a typical thickness for me oceanic crusts is 6 km. In terms of history the continental crust contains a muc...
متن کاملthe crustal structure beneath the northwest of the zagros (kermanshah region) from teleseismic receiver functions
in this study, we used teleseismic data which was recorded by 5 stations (dhr, ghg, kom, lin and vis) of the kermanshah seismic network from 2003 to 2007 with mb?5.5 and epicentral distances from 30° to 95°. the crustal structure beneath these stations was determined by the modeling of the p receiver functions. the main phases, which were observed in our final p receiver functions, are moho con...
